The General

See main article The General

The General was the "house organ" of The Avalon Hill Game Company beginning with the first issue in 1964. Published bi-monthly, the print run ended with the dissolution of Avalon Hill in 1998.

The General hosted articles and variants for the entire line of Avalon Hill games, including sports, adult and fantasy titles, though the focus was on wargames. With the introduction of ASL in 1986, the magazine offered regular features on the game, including ASL Clinic written by Jon Mishcon, and a series of scenarios (numbered from G1 to G??) included in the insert. Several other scenarios were also included in various issues, including a series of Tournament scenarios (T1 to T6) and SL Scenario Conversaions (A to O).

Other inserts included variant counters included with Volume 28, Number 6, and deluxe sized overlays in Volume 30 Number 3.

ASL Annual

In addition to supporting ASL through The General, Avalon Hill also published an annual magazine devoted to the game, later increased to a twice-annual, and then printed irregularly until the demise of Avalon Hill.

The Annuals contained a mix of articles, including variants, historical articles, scenario analyses/replays, and most contained a spoof of the rules with the addition of a new counter, such as a Piper SMC, Mine Dog, glider tank or PzKpfw Maus.
