Historical Studies are a type of ASL module distinct from Core Modules. They are characterized by inclusion of limited counter sets, and by focus on a particular historical event. Unlike Historical ASL Modules, they do not rely entirely on historical maps, but also use the geomorphic maps of the regular game system to depict terrain in the enclosed scenarios.

Like HASL, the Historical Studies include campaign games and rules; Chapter Z has been designated in the rulebook for rules pages from these studies.
