Introduction

ASL (Advanced Squad Leader) is a tactical level World War II board game, developed by Avalon Hill. The system is now maintained by Multi-Man Publishing.

What is ASL? Read the FAQ

The system is comprised of a number of Core Modules, Historical Studies, HASL Modules, Periodicals and Third Party Modules developed by a number of different Publishers. A recent addition to the set are the Starter Kits.

Scenarios respresent mostly historical based Infantry/Tank/Anti-tank gun action at a scale of approximately 40 metres to a hex, 2 minutes per turn. They're generally played between two players and typically last between 2-4 hours.

Learning ASL

The starter kits or a friendly tutor are probably the best way to begin to learn the game, but failing that, the following might help:

Tactics

Learning to play ASL well isn't just about knowing the Rulebook inside out - although it helps! There are many tactics that have been developed over the years. This section is aimed at making that knowledge available for all. It's broken down into a number of sections. Feel free to add more!

Please create/edit the pages. Provide images where possible. Link to VASL logs if it helps illustrate the point.

Misc.

This section is provided as a starting point to list all the misc. rules that should be categorised by the scenario archive - and as such shouldn't be here(!) (and/or Chronology of War spreadsheet). See the list here
